Responsible body for the clinic

Verein für Berufsgenossenschaftliche Heilbehandlung Heidelberg e.V. (Heidelberg Association for Therapy and Treatment under the German Employer's Liability Insurance Association)

The association is the responsible body for the BG Trauma Clinics in Tübingen and Ludwigshafen as well as the Schools of Physiotherapy which are affiliated to the clinics.

Founded in 1955 for the purpose of constructing and taking over the role of the acting responsible board for the new BG Clinic (BG = German Employer's Liability Insurance Association) to be built in the southwest of Germany in Tübingen; current aims according to the constitution of the association include:

  • the provision of particularly well-qualified facilities for comprehensive and long-term care for seriously injured people;
  • the promotion of science and research in the field of accident/trauma medicine; and
  • the initial and further training of doctors and medical auxiliary personnel, among other things by covering the tasks required in the areas of trauma surgery, hand surgery, plastic surgery and burn treatment at the universities of Tübingen and Heidelberg.

The members are the institutions of the statutory accident insurance: commercial and agricultural accident prevention and insurance associations, private accident insurance companies. The statutory accident insurance institutions are responsible as "one-stop shops" for prevention, rehabilitation and any necessary compensation. Rehabilitation services are preferable to pension payments. They therefore have a vested interest in the highest possible quality standards and have set up the BG Clinics specifically for this purpose, which implement the special quality standard "healing and helping with all possible means" in accident and trauma medicine in the Federal Republic of Germany.

The association acts as a non-profit-making organisation. The general meeting and the board as the highest decision-making committees and self-governing bodies are evenly filled with policyholder representatives und employer's representatives.
